PRELIMINARY SCREENING OPEN

Montana
property screening.

Montana screening is open in the controlled preliminary workflow. Dryland and irrigated systems are evaluated separately, with property evidence controlling the result.

MONTANA READINESS

Open for screening.
Evidence controls the outcome.

Every Ash & Acre state uses the same public standard. We can begin the preliminary work; parcel-specific agronomy and the client’s tax professional remain required for any final position.

READINESSIntake & preliminary estimate available

The state workflow is open for property facts, acquisition review, preliminary modeling, and case coordination.

TARGET TIMINGTarget: 2–5 business days for the initial fit check

A full evidence track commonly takes 4–8 weeks after engagement, depending on records, sampling, lab timing, agronomy, and tax review.

STRONGER FITAcquired productive ground with records

Eligible acreage, established fertilization, acquisition evidence, and parcel-specific soil support usually create a stronger reason to investigate.

MONTANA OPPORTUNITY PROFILES

Where the first look
may be most worthwhile.

These are screening priorities—not promises of qualification or deduction size. The property’s facts, evidence, and professional review determine whether an opportunity is supportable.

01

Wheat & barley

Large managed fields with crop rotations, yield history, and documented nutrient applications.

02

Irrigated hay & alfalfa

Improved forage acreage with traceable irrigation and fertility history.

03

Sugarbeets & potatoes

Higher-input irrigated crop ground with detailed field and nutrient records.

04

Pulse and diversified rotations

Fields where nutrient credits, removals, and rotation history can be documented rather than averaged.

What can support a larger potential opportunity?

More eligible acquired acres, an established nutrient-intensive history, repeated fertilizer or amendment applications, reliable records, and parcel-specific evidence can all matter. The state name or crop label alone does not determine a deduction.

EVIDENCE TO GATHER

Build the file
around the land.

Dryland/irrigated classification, rotations, fertilizer and lime history, soil tests, field maps, acquisition support, and Montana agronomy.

STATE-SPECIFIC WATCHOUT

Dryland and irrigated acreage can have materially different management histories. Geography is recorded for evidence; it does not create an automatic multiplier.

Final tax basis, recovery method, timing, filing amount, and tax effect remain decisions for the client’s qualified tax professional.

Public references provide context. Ash & Acre does not apply an automatic state or county multiplier, and public averages do not replace parcel evidence.
